We offer individual, family, and group counseling. Counseling is essential to recovery. It helps to understand the root of addiction, identify triggers, learn coping skills, and positive habits.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing are two types of styles utilized by our counselors and therapists.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented form of therapy that helps people identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. It emphasizes the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. If we change the way we think, we can change the way we feel and act. This style of counseling teaches the coping skills needed to achieve and maintain recovery.
Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered counseling method designed to help individuals explore and resolve ambivalence about behavior change. It is often used to address addiction. This counseling style is particularly effective when someone feels stuck between wanting to change, but not ready to commit to change or confident enough to do so. Motivational interviewing encourages reflection and conversation, builds confidence, and helps the patient hear their own thoughts to find the motivation to change their behavior.

Harbor MATs Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is 3 days a week for 3 hours a day. IOP offers structured, non-residential, personalized therapy for individuals dealing with mental health or substance use disorders. A person can enter an IOP as either a step up or a step down from their level of care. It’s more intensive than traditional counseling but less so than inpatient care, allowing individuals to stay engaged in daily life.
